How reminders work in mond
- One daily reminder for your stack. It lists what you haven't logged yet, such as "Time for Magnesium and Zinc."
- Logging takes one tap. Open mond and tap Take, or tap Log All on the Home Screen widget without opening the app.
- Paused supplements stay quiet. Pause something you've stopped for a while and it leaves Today and your reminders. Its history stays.
- Creatine portions. If you split creatine across the day, each portion has its own time.
- Supply. Track what's left in each pack if you like. Every logged dose comes off it, and your stack shows when a pack is running low.
- Scheduled on your iPhone. Reminders are part of the free iPhone app. The web version doesn't send them.
Why one accurate reminder beats five alarms
Reminders can help people take things regularly. In a 2016 meta-analysis of 16 randomized trials with 2,742 patients, text-message reminders roughly doubled the odds that people took their medication as prescribed (odds ratio 2.11). The authors caution that the trials were short and mostly relied on people reporting their own adherence.[1] A 2020 review of app-based interventions found a similar effect on self-reported adherence across nine trials, and called for larger studies.[2] Both looked at prescription medicines, not supplements, so treat them as a hint rather than proof.
Our view: an alarm that fires whether or not you've already taken something teaches you to swipe it away. A reminder that only lists what's left stays worth reading. That's why mond builds its reminder from what you've logged today.
Choosing a reminder time
- Tie it to a routine, not only a clock. Habit researchers advise repeating an action in the same context, such as after breakfast, until it becomes automatic.[3] Set the reminder a little after that moment, as a check.
- Pick a time you're near your supplements. A reminder at your desk is easy to dismiss when the bottles are at home.
- Write it as an if-then plan. "When I sit down for dinner, I take my magnesium." Across 94 tests, plans in this if-then form had a medium-to-large effect on reaching goals.[4]
- Follow the label for timing. Some supplements are meant to be taken with food. If you're unsure, ask a pharmacist.

Supplement reminder, pill reminder or phone alarm?
| Option | Works well when | Gets awkward when |
|---|---|---|
| Phone alarm or a to-do reminder | You take one thing at one time and want zero setup. | It goes off whether or not you've taken it, and it keeps no record. |
| Pill reminder app, such as Medisafe, MyTherapy or Apple Health's Medications | You take medicines on exact schedules, or want refill reminders (Medisafe, MyTherapy) or interaction warnings (Apple Health and Medisafe, in the US). | Reminders are built around each scheduled dose, which is more than some people need for a few daily supplements. |
| A supplement tracker such as mond (our app) | You take several supplements a day and want one reminder that lists what's left, plus one-tap logging. | You need a separate alarm for each pill at an exact time, interaction checks, or an Android app. |
When a pill reminder app is the better choice
If you manage prescription medicines, care for someone else's medication, need reminders for each dose at a precise time, or want interaction warnings, use a pill reminder. Medisafe and the Medications feature in Apple's Health app are both strong at this. Our comparisons explain the differences: mond vs Medisafe and mond vs Apple Health.
Questions
Can I set different reminder times for different supplements?
mond sends one daily reminder for your stack that names what's left, and creatine portions each have their own time. If you need a separate alarm for each pill at an exact time, a pill reminder app such as Medisafe, or the Medications feature in Apple Health, may suit you better.
Will mond remind me about supplements I already took?
No. The reminder names what you haven't logged yet. Log a dose and it drops off the list.
What if I miss the reminder?
Take it when you can, if the label allows, and log it then. Today's ring stays open until you log, and you can fill in a past day from the calendar. Don't double up to make up for a missed dose unless the label or your pharmacist says to.
Do reminders work in the web version?
No. Reminders, widgets, Siri and Apple Health are part of the iPhone app.
Are reminders free?
Yes. Tracking your whole stack, reminders and widgets are free. mond Pro is optional.
